Why Your Personal Brand Is Everything

Posted on April 22, 2022

You have a personal brand.

Whether you’re an author, speaker, influencer, or even the CEO of a company, you have a brand.

You may not realize it…

But it exists. And it influences both what you do in your career and how others, including your potential clients, perceive you.

Maybe that’s a scary thought.

After all, you’ve never put much thought into your personal brand before because you didn’t think you had one. Or, you’re in a position where you’re leading a major business and you simply don’t think it needs the power of you to become stronger.

This may sound a little confronting…

But you need to accept that you have a personal brand and that it’s a powerful force.

Why?

When you accept that you have one, you put yourself in a position to leverage that brand!

You have the chance to create so many more opportunities for yourself and your business. If you’re a leader of any kind – and I know you are if you’re reading this – learning how to use your brand will have extraordinarily positive consequences.

So, that’s what we’re going to look at here!

The concept of a personal brand is too enormous to cover in a single article. Instead, I’m going to give you a couple of tips to help you get the messaging behind your brand right.

But first, there’s a big question we need to answer…

What is a Personal Brand?

A personal brand is everything you believe that’s wrapped up in the way you present yourself.

Yes, it’s also about your style, logo, colors, and all of those things that people put in their brand guidelines.

But to me, a personal brand goes so much deeper.

Creating one requires you to dig into your core philosophical beliefs and figure out what you stand for.

What are the emotions you can bring to the fore?

What do people follow you for?

These are difficult questions to answer, which is why so many of us shy away from our personal brands.

We struggle to come up with the answers because we’re not always great at seeing ourselves for the Mavericks and transformative powers that we truly are.

With that in mind, I believe that the key to unlocking your personal brand is to get down to the core of who you are. When you do that, you’re able to present that core in your messaging and leverage it to bring others into your world.

How do you do that?

I have a couple of tips that can help.

Tip #1 – Figure Out Where You’re the Anomaly

Troy McTeer didn’t think a whole lot of me when he first saw my ads on Facebook.

In fact, he tells me that he thought what I had to say was a load of rubbish when he first saw it!

But then he saw the ad again…

And again…

Eventually, he decided to give Business Bravery a try even though he still wasn’t quite convinced.

And Troy ended up devouring our materials.

He went from offering $6k packages to $150k packages in less than six months.

How?

A lot of transformative work went into this achievement. But Troy tells me that one of his biggest lightbulb moments came when he realized that he’s an anomaly. As a life coach, he simply doesn’t do things the same way as other life coaches.

That realization led him to the creation of new courses and different messaging, which helped lead him towards making successful premium offers.

What can you learn from this brief snippet of Troy’s story?

You’re an anomaly, too!

Anybody capable of creating real transformation is an anomaly.

You’re somebody who’s seen how other people in your industry do things and you’ve decided to take a different path.

You’re unique.

And that needs to shine through in the messaging for your personal brand.

The people you want to work with aren’t looking for people who offer the same thing as everyone else. They’re looking for innovators, disruptive thinkers, and people who are not afraid to unleash their creative energy on the world.

Be the anomaly.

It’s so much more fun than being what the mainstream expects you to be!

Tip #2 – Do the Manifesto Exercise

You know you’re the anomaly.

Now, it’s time to create your manifesto.

This is your call to arms. It’s your message, your brand, laid out to inspire you.

Here’s what you need to do:

Grab a pen and paper and start writing. Document everything that you stand for and write about the revolution that you’re here to lead. But don’t let any thoughts of “rules” or “processes” get in the way.

Remember, this is your manifesto and you can create it however you see fit.

Maybe that means it’s as simple as a list of bullet points.

For some of my clients, the manifesto takes the form of a poem. I also have others who create videos or even full-blown documentaries for themselves.

So, write a book…

Create a vision board…

Paint a picture…

Whatever helps you get to grips with your philosophical beliefs, what you stand for, and the revolution you lead can become part of your manifesto.

Just aim to capture it all in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable.

Why?

Your manifesto is your chance to look at yourself and the magic you have to offer. It allows you to see yourself through the eyes of your clients so you can recognize what you bring to the table.

But I do have a few things I want you to do to make sure you get this right…

Be incredibly honest when creating your manifesto. This isn’t the place for smoke and mirrors. Because to really understand your brand and message, you have to lay everything out as authentically as you can.

Just know it’s okay to feel uncomfortable while you’re doing this.

It’s okay to feel a little scared.

After all, you’re baring yourself in a way that you may have never done before.

You’re outlining your core philosophical beliefs and committing to standing by them, no matter what the world throws your way.

Your manifesto defines you. It’s what your people will get behind and it shows that the true and authentic you.

Take as long as you need to create it and do it in whatever way that aligns with your personality.

Your Brand Is Your Power

A personal brand is so much more than your colors and logo. It’s more than the instructions laid out in brand guidelines.

Your brand is your belief system.

It’s the philosophies that define you as a transformational force in the lives of your clients. And it’s your core philosophies laid bare for the world to see.

Ultimately, your personal brand is what will draw the right people into your world.

I’ve shared a couple of tips that will help you to get to grips with your personal brand and the messaging behind it.

But I’ve just scratched the surface here.

There’s so much more that I’d like to talk to you about.

So, I have a simple question:

Are you ready to unleash your personal brand of brilliance on the world?
